Shortly before this issue went to
press, Retail News was named
Canada’s Best Trade Magazine
of the Year by the Canadian
Business Press. The field of competition was heady, stacked with
weighty journals catering to a
range of business-to-business
readers from mining and transportation to foodservice and
hospitality. In the magazine of
the year category, the judges narrowed the field down to three
titles. Nominees were encouraged to attend the awards to
hear the announcement live,
and, of course, this award was
the last of 22 given that night.
Those of us attending on behalf of Retail News (shout out to publisher Tom Foran and account specialist Marisa Florio!) were jittery throughout the entire three-hour gala. When
the chairman of the Canadian Business Press leaned into the microphone and said, “And
the winner is... Retail News”, my knees went weak. I barely made it up to the podium.
Later that evening I commented to my husband that the feeling I had – of winning –
wasn’t as strong as the feeling I had when Retail News did not take home gold when short-listed for this award two years ago. He remarked that this was the sign of a competitor.
Those of you I’ve had the privilege to meet and get to know, can attest to my passion and
devotion to Retail News – and to the industry as a whole. Let’s just say, I’m not shy.
Being recognized by Canada’s publishing elite as the best trade magazine is an amazing
accomplishment, but it’s the emails, tweets, cards and Facebook posts you send on a daily
basis that ultimately matter. A big heart-felt thank you for taking the time to provide feedback during the course of your hectic days. It’s essential to our continued success.
